Reported Case: Teertha Gupta KC, Mani Singh Basi and James Nottage Acted Pro Bono in Forced Marriage and Wardship Case
Teertha Gupta KC, Mani Singh Basi and James Nottage acted pro bono on behalf of Karma Nirvana, a charity supporting victims and survivors of forced marriage, in this wardship and forced marriage case. After M, a seventeen-year-old girl, had faced difficulties in securing her return to England after being taken abroad and asserting she was at risk of a forced marriage at the hands of her parents, Cusworth J invited written submissions from interested parties including the FCDO, the police and Karma Nirvana, leading to these “judicial observations” on what should be done by different agencies in like cases.

Eight members of 4PB appeared in the case of A v M & Ors [2024] EWHC 2020 (Fam), where a stepfather from New Zealand applied for parental responsibility for two children after their mother unlawfully removed them to the UK, breaching his custody rights.
