Jacqueline Renton represented the mother in wardship proceedings in the High Court concerning her two children who had been wrongfully retained by the father in Russia after an agreed Christmas holiday.

The case raises important issues as regards the interpretation of habitual residence under article 3 of Hague Convention 1980 and the appropriate guidance to be applied when considering whether or not children should be joined to Hague Convention 1980 proceedings. Judgment has been reserved.

Rex Howling QC represents the wife who wants half of the available assets but has stated that she will settle for £300 million. Mr Young is an undischarged bankrupt who claims to have debts of £28 million. Their divorce has been ongoing for 6 years and has been subject to an unprecedented level of press coverage. The trial is due to last for 4 weeks.
