4PB are saddened to learn of the death of Her Honour Judge Shirley Anwyl KC who was a much loved member of 4 Paper Buildings before her appointment as a Circuit Judge in 1995, serving as the Resident Judge at Woolwich Crown Court from 1999 to 2007.
Shirley was an outstanding advocate of indomitable spirit and in 1979 she became the 16th woman to take silk at the age of 38. She will be remembered by 4PB for her friendship, her enthusiasm for everything, and the colour she brought into our lives. Shirley was a loyal friend to chambers and rarely missed a gathering. She was generous with her time and supportive of those wishing to follow a career at the Bar.
