We were proud and delighted to be awarded “Pro Bono Chambers of the Year” at yesterday’s Bar Pro Bono Awards, recognising our “outstanding contribution to pro bono work in the last 12 months.”
In a joint statement, Heads of Chambers, Charles Hale KC and Barbara Mills KC, said,
“This is an award we can really, really be proud of. It reflects one of our core values – acting in the public interest and ensuring access to justice is not denied because of a lack of funds. Success is upholding those core values. To be recognised is humbling.”
Jo Brown KC, one of our Pro Bono Champions present at the awards, remarked,
“Everyone has access to courts, but that is not the same as having access to justice. 4PB takes the view that a crucial element of access to justice is having access to legal advice. In circumstances where the state no longer ensures that, our members do their best to help. 4PB does not undertake pro bono work for recognition, but winning this award has enormous meaning for us. It shines a much-needed light on the work we have done, and gives us huge encouragement to press on.”
