The High Court considered the appropriate test to be applied when determining whether a local authority should inform a teenage boy that he was a father, where the child had been relinquished for adoption at birth and the teenage mother opposed information being given to him. Cases involving parents who were themselves children were not in a special category, although their youth was a relevant factor. Considerable regard had to be given to the mother’s wishes.
