Profile

Greg is an experienced children law specialist who is known for his expertise in difficult circumstances. He acts for parents and guardians in disputes regarding children’s living arrangements and when local authorities have issued care proceedings. He is calm and composed under pressure and a measured yet passionate advocate of his client’s case.

Greg has undertaken multiple complex fact-finding hearings involving the most serious of allegations in children law proceedings. He is regularly led by King’s Counsel and has also led Junior Counsel in child death, serious non-accidental and sexual abuse cases.

Greg is involved in overseas projects addressing children’s rights in conflict zones. He has worked with government officials, UN agencies and NGOs in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory on the treatment of Palestinian children by the Israeli military. Greg organised a UK legal delegation and co-authored a report with Sir Stephen Sedley, Baroness Scotland KC and others entitled ‘Children in Military Custody’. The report was adopted by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and received international press attention.

Greg volunteered for the Human Rights Commission in Auckland, New Zealand. He has worked in the UK with children with emotional behavioural difficulties, epilepsy and autistic spectrum disorder.


Private Children Law

Greg has expertise and experience in the more technical aspects of children law including special guardianship, fact-finding hearings, temporary or permanent relocation of children and child abduction.

He understands the particular issues involved where there are allegations of physical and sexual abuse, coaching, substance abuse, domestic violence, coercive and controlling behaviour, emotional harm and neglect.
He is highly experienced in cases where allegations of alienating behaviours are made and in the full range of other circumstances where arrangements between parents and their children have broken down.

Greg has a sensitive and sensible approach to private law children disputes. He provides pragmatic and insightful advice and has a reputation for achieving child-centered solutions. Where cases are not capable of being settled, he will advocate tenaciously for his clients, making him a sought-after practitioner in this dynamic and demanding field.

Greg’s extensive experience in Public Children Law work has helped to earn him a reputation for strong and skilful cross-examination of both professional and lay witnesses.

Public Children Law

Greg acts for parents, guardians and local authorities in adoption and care proceedings.

Greg has been led by numerous King’s Counsel in high-profile, complex and legally challenging cases. He has also led several Junior Counsel in cases involving child death, non-accidental injuries and sexual abuse. Greg has acted in cases involving allegations of Fabricated Induced Illness (FII) and has been led in two large trials where findings of salt-poisoning were made.

He is familiar with cases that have concurrent criminal proceedings and Public Interest Immunity applications. Greg has undertaken numerous trials with voluminous medical, police and mobile phone disclosure.

Together with Leading Counsel, Greg acted in a case listed for a seven week fact finding hearing in the High Court; securing the return of the client’s child to her care.

Greg has provided training on Public Children Law and is a pupil supervisor.

Greg is part of the Inquests and Public Enquiries Team.

International Children Law

Greg has undertaken both Private and Public International Children Law cases. He has experience of international relocation cases and child abduction. Greg has also been involved in international transfer of proceedings requests and r. He is familiar working with ICACU and CFAB.

Greg’s approachable demeanour, combined with his robust advocacy skills, makes him a reliable advocate when navigating the legal and emotional complexities of international children cases.
