Since coming into force in 2007 the number of cases coming before the court system has increased exponentially. These cases now make up 10% of the Family Division’s workload. The Court of Protection has its own registry at Archway dealing solely with this work.
Given the number of cases being heard, the law in this area is being refined and changed at a rapid pace. This seminar will attempt to cover recent developments in the law as well as providing practical tips when embarking on a new case.
Who should attend?
This seminar is suitable for a broad spectrum of delegates, both those who already have a Court of Protection caseload and those who are looking to develop their practice in this field. There will be written material provided to ensure that those unfamiliar with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 understand the key concepts before being launched into the recent case law. Practitioners who undertake either care cases or financial work may find that the Court of Protection overlaps with their existing practice as use of the Act increases.
